Job Description


Role purpose

  • Responsible to assist the Breeding team in researching and executing the different product evaluation activities, according to the various trial programs.
  • Provide technical assistance for actions such as, trial planning, planting and harvesting

Accountabilities


  • Assist in the harvesting and planting of Sunflower/Corn trials at the various trial sites
  • Responsible for trial preparation, communicating with off-site growers and planting of yield trials in the summer rainfall areas.
  • Manage the processing of Sunflower/Corn samples during harvesting.
  • Prepare/Coordinate Sunflower/Corn samples for shipment to the specific labs/other functions
  • Transport/Arrange transport for equipment and samples to and from trial sites
  • Assist in recording data from other trials when necessary
  • Ensure high quality of recorded data
  • Provide technical assistance for actions such as, trial planning, planting and harvesting
  • Taking of field readings
  • Trial locality management for South Africa.
  • Ownership of breeding and harvesting equipment, maintenance and improvements.
  • Uphold the company’s brand image in a professional manner.

Qualifications


Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities

Critical qualifications

  • B.Sc. Degree (natural sciences), or equivalent tertiary qualification in Agriculture, or B.A. Agric Degree
  • Minimum 3 years in the Agriculture/Seeds industry

Critical knowledge

  • Understanding of trial design and layout
  • Familiar with Microsoft computing tools
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans
  • Good knowledge of agricultural practices and seeds

Critical Skills

  • Practical, mechanical, and technical mindset and experience
  • Good sense of observation (“good eye”)
  • Work independently and within a team
  • Have a valid driver license and willingness to travel extensively
